Why is it important to track Bitcoin Development?
As of January 2018 there have been over 15,000 commits to the Bitcoin project on Github. With over 500 contributors, the Bitcoin project has the most amount of developer activity of any other coin.
At Flipside, we have been tracking Bitcoin development for some time now. Here are some interesting facts:
- Since January 1st, 2015 there were 3505 push events to the bitcoin project - 3.3 per day The most pushes were on Jan 18th, 2016 where there were 24 pushes. This coincided with some heavy volatility. Strangely enough, the weeks leading up to the 18th saw some of the lowest issue submissions.
- Over the same time period there were 3325 issue events, while this may seem like a lot, many of these issue events were actually fixes, showing a healthy development environment.
- Bitcoin has had a Flipside Github Health index of over 990 (out of 1000) for the entire time Flipside has been tracking Bitcoin development. Bitcoin is the only crypto to do so.
So why is it important to track Bitcoin development? There are many reasons, but some of the most important are: understanding how the Bitcoin development community reacts to major issues, if there are major declines in activity there may be following declines in valuation, increasing valuation around push events, and more.
